Resumo:
Diabetes Mellitus is a serious public health problem due to its high
prevalence in the population and one of its main microvascular complications is
chronic kidney disease. In Brazil, the prevalence of people on replacement therapy
kidney disease has increased in recent years and one of the main causes is increased
diabetes mellitus 2. Nutritional therapy, introducing fiber into the diet has been the focus of
coping with diabetes mellitus. The yellow passion fruit peel flour is rich in
pectin, a soluble fiber fraction that has been shown to be effective in glycemic control.
Thus, the present work aimed to evaluate the effects of supplementation with
yellow passion fruit peel flour on nutritional and dietary parameters of
patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus undergoing hemodialysis in the city of Patos,
Paraíba. Patients were divided into two groups, G 1: supplemented with flour
of yellow passion fruit peel and G2: placebo. The profile was evaluated

obtained by food frequency questionnaire and 24-hour recalls. All these

it proved to be effective with regard to gastrointestinal issues. The patients' fasting blood glucose had an average reduction of 20%, after being supplemented with yellow passion fruit peel flour. Given the results obtained, we can conclude that the use of yellow passion fruit peel flour can be an auxiliary alternative in the treatment of diabetic patients undergoing hemodialysis.
