The experience of the parturition means a odd moment in the woman’s life marked by transformations in her new role of mother. The woman need to be prepared to this moment from the beginning of the pregnancy, because in the moment of giving birth, it is important to be able choose the most viable way, that best suits your baby and the possible complications arising during pregnancy. The physiological birth or vaginal demonstrates in relation to caesarean, the series of disadvantages, making it the ideal way to give birth. However, thereare womans who are afraid to give birth by vaginal way, because they fear the consequences that may arise from this type of delivery. Despite government efforts, following the recommendation of the World Health Organization, the high cesarean rates persist and do not suffer significant impacts. In this sense, this study aims to determine the factors that influence the pregnant woman in choosing the way of delivery. This is an exploratory and descriptive study with quantitative and qualitative approach, which was developed with pregnant womenin a Basic Health Unit in the city of Cajazeiras – PB. Data were collected in August using a semistructured form. The data of objective questios were presented in tables and subjective questions were organized and categorized according to Bardin analysis technique and analyzed in the light of the relevant literature the theme. The research followed the principles of the National Health Council Resolution 466/2012. The participants were 12 pregnant women aged 18 to 39 years, being half with an informal marriage 6 (50%), the Catholic majority 8 (66.7%), and with incomplete primary education 4 (33.3%), family income of 1 to 2 minimum wages, with consultations by the nurse and doctor 7 (58,3%), having as main complication gestational urinary infection 3 (25%); besides 5 (41,6%) are in their second pregnancy, 6 (50%) nulliparous, and 7 (58,3%) refer not have aborted. The results of this survey revealed that the majority of pregnant women have knowledge about the delivery methods. Refer preference for cesarean section, motivated by fear of pain, suffering and desire for a tubal ligation. They received guidance from health professionals on the delivery methods, revealing satisfaction service. Therefore, it is to essential the support from health professionals during pregnancy to support the choice of mode of delivery through health
education.
