This research analyzes the place of politics in the sociology textbooks of the National Textbook Program (PNLD) 2018. It aims to specify the field of politics in the social sciences, to understand how it is approached in high school through this didactic material and how it is received by the students. The theoretical framework articulates the relationship between students and teachers in the current Brazilian context (KRAWCZYK, 2011), curriculum theories (SILVA, 2010), the inclusion and reception of sociology in the oficial high school curriculum (SOUZA and BARROS ; VARGAS: 2017, 2011) and history of PNLD in Brazil (CASSIANO, 2013). The research has a qualitative approach. Based on the observation of the researched subjects, students of the Dom Miguel Kruse State of Professor Maria Ferraz de Campos State School, located on the east side of the city of São Paulo, it is used the interview as a data collection instrument. These are analyzed based on the conceptual appropriation provided by the theoretical framework. The result achieved shows that, although political science constitutes one of the three parts of Social Sciences in the discipline of sociology in high school, its space, when compared to the spaces of sociology and anthropology, is insufficient to address fundamental themes in education citizen of the students.
