Résumé:
Over the last decades, the changes in the lifestyle of the Brazilian population have
reflected on a diet poor in nutrients which, in turn, can complicate the treatment of
cardiovascular diseases (CVD) or increase the likelihood of acquiring one. This
bibliographical review aims to investigate what are the major risk factors related to CVD
and its relationship with regular diet. A bibliographical review was undertaken by
searching for peer-review articles available on Pubmed, Lilacs, Google Scholar and
SciElo databases in the last eight years. Priority was given to articles published in the
last five years. 84 articles were found of which 69 were selected. Hypertension, obesity,
diabetes, and dyslipidaemia were the principal risk factors associated with
cardiovascular diseases. Given the increasing incidence of CVD in recent years, the
Department of Health created a guideline with dietary recommendations regarding type
of aliments and its respective daily portions. These recommendations divide some
aliments into groups according to the processing methods and nutritional value; some
of these aliments are used in the treatment of diseases. Therefore, the role of the
pharmacist is crucial whose knowledge facilitates the correct use of drugs as well as
advising the clients towards a healthier life.
