Diabetes is a chronic disease, considered an important public health problem.
With the progress of the pathology and without adequate therapeutic resources,
important complications that affect the patient's overall well-being, causing
adherence to pharmacological treatment is important, in addition to lifestyle changes. O
The aim of this study was to understand the association between the use of medication and
healthy eating in the treatment of people with Diabetes Mellitus. To the
elaboration of this work an integrative literature review was carried out. The study was
prepared through research in available electronic databases: Periodicals
Capes, SciElo, VHL, Science Direct, Pubmed, Medline and Lilacs. The search for material
bibliographic was in Portuguese and English and the period worked was five
years (2017-2021). The results showed that the difficulty in following the
recommendations is related not only to acquired habits, but to the cultural value of the
food related to beliefs and socioeconomic conditions. the level of education
is an important socioeconomic indicator, as it is related to purchasing power,
expenses with food and availability of resources for treatment. concluded
that there are benefits for the person with DM when the therapy is properly used
drug associated with healthy eating. The pharmacist is
essential in this process, as it acts in the guidance and monitoring of treatment
medication to ensure patient safety.
