Résumé:
The aim of this study is to investigate the importance of certain Design attributes in
educational games and toys used to teach mathematical content in the 3rd year of elementary
school, in order to identify the potential of each attribute in relation to the content being taught.
The method used in this research can be characterized as qualitative in its approach, applied in
its nature, exploratory in scope and as a multiple case study in its design. The research was
carried out in the elementary department of six municipal, state and private schools located in
the city of Santa Luzia, Paraíba, Brazil, where games and toys are used as a pedagogical practice
to teach the discipline of mathematics to 3rd year students. The results showed the importance
of the Design of educational games and toys for teaching, with the attributes of these products
enabling them to fulfil their function of passing on some type of knowledge to the child more
or less satisfactorily. As such, this research enables conclusions to be reached as to the level of
satisfaction delivered by the attributes present in relation to the mathematical content for which
they are used. Thus, in the context of this study, Design is considered to be a tool that can assist
and enhance the teaching of mathematical content through the visual communication offered
by each product.
