Resumo:
Water is an essential substance for the maintenance of life, so the use of this
substance in the human routine is the most varied, both for consumption and hygiene
and for agricultural and industrial activities. Therefore, the water to be consumed must
be under the standards established by the Ministry of Health (MH). For this reason, it
is necessary to analyze the physical and chemical parameters to know if the water to
be used is within the standards or not, and then determine if it is proper for
consumption. In Brazil, the Semi-arid region is the most affected by water scarcity, a
situation that often forces the population, because of their needs, to risk using
inappropriate water. Thus, the present work aimed –through the analysis of physical
and chemical parameters of water samples collected in March and June 2021– to
evaluate the water quality of the Bruscas reservoir, in the municipality of Curral Velho
- PB, based on physical-chemical parameters, as presented by Ordinance No. 5/2017
of the Ministry of Health, to inform the population, as well as the local authorities,
regarding the quality of the water distributed for the city's supply. Measurements have
been done of the parameters pH, conductivity, alkalinity, hardness, turbidity, chlorides,
and atomic emission of sodium and potassium. Among the analyzed samples, those
called Ilha, Lira, Meio, and Parede, collected in June, it was possible to observe that
measured pH values were not within the values established by the MH. Regarding
turbidity, only the Parede sample, collected in March, exceeded the maximum allowed
value. Concerning the other parameters, the samples Island, Lira, Meio, Parede,
Bleeder, and Tap, collected in the two periods, presented acceptable values for
potability. Based on the data obtained, it was found that the waters from the Bruscas
reservoir were not suitable for human consumption; and, therefore, they should not be
used to supply the population of Curral Velho.
