Résumé:
Domestic violence is a health problem that spans generations. Family health units are
the gateway to welcoming victims and referring them to the care network, and the nurse,
who coordinates the management of this care in a team, must be qualified to provide
assistance. The aim of this study was to analyze the social representations of nurses in the
family health strategy about domestic violence against women. The study is qualitative,
descriptive and exploratory, and was carried out in Cuité, city of Curimataú, Paraíba. The
subjects are nurses from family health units, totaling 07 professionals. Data were collected
in March 2021, through a Free Word Association Test, with the inductive term “domestic
violence against women”. Data analysis was performed using the IRAMUTEQ software, in
which the prototypical analysis was used, which allows analyzing the Frequency and
Average Order of Evocations of words. All ethical precepts were respected. The results
demonstrated the negative attitude of the participating nurses regarding the inductive term.
The feeling of suffering and fear was evident in the results. Furthermore, structural
machismo was evoked as an influence on male violent behavior. The study is necessary for a
reflection on the nurses' attention in assisting women victims of domestic violence, as well
as what they think about these acts, so that better care alternatives for these women are
envisioned.
