Resumo:
It is very common to hear that Physics is found in phenomena linked to nature and
that, despite being in constant connection with these phenomena, they go unnoticed
by our eyes, many times we do not even recognize their presence in certain situations.
This happens frequently, mostly because we do not know the vast fields in which
Physics can act, because in our academic environment, whether during high school or
graduation in a degree course in Physics, little is worked with the idea that it directly
influences a large part of several areas of knowledge; in particular, Medicine. As a
result, the recognition of Physics within Medicine ends up being lost amid academic
formalism. From that observation, this work seeks to show some uses of radiation in
the medical field that were only possible thanks to the development and knowledge of
Physics. Therefore, this work aims to show how the use of radiation in Medicine
started, through a clear and succinct description of the entire evolutionary process
behind the applications of radiation, mainly in the medical treatment of cancerous
diseases, in addition to development and technological advancement. For the
elaboration of this work, a bibliographic review was carried out with consultations of
books, articles and magazines. Therefore, Physics has made a significant and
fundamental contribution to the development of Nuclear Medicine, and as a result, we
have saved lives.
