Abstract:
The road modal is the most used means of transportation in Brazil and directly
participates in the country's socioeconomic advancement. Thus, it is essential that it
offers a good infrastructure to users, ensuring basic conditions such as comfort and
safety and for this, it is necessary that the running surface is preserved. However,
most Brazilian highways have pavement defects and therefore it is common and
necessary to carry out studies to assess the quality and functionality of the road
surface. Thus, the purpose of this work was to perform a functional assessment and
define the degree of deterioration of the pavement of the Alça Sudeste highway,
belonging to the municipality of Patos-PB, through the comparison of two methods,
the Continuous Visual Survey (CVS) and the Global Gravity Index (GGI). The first
method consists of analyzing the road only by its visual aspect, with the identification
of pathologies, while the second is more precise and provides the preparation of an
inventory of defects. Through this study, the Flexible Pavement Condition Index
(FPCI), the Expedito Global Gravity Index (EGGI), the Pavement Surface State Index
(PSSI) and the Global Gravity Index (IGG) were obtained. The results exposed the
executive differences between the two procedures and revealed that both obtained
converging opinions, indicating that the municipal highway under study has a bad
concept for its state of conservation. This condition found determines that the use
and performance of the road are compromised and the purpose of the study is to
help future works to select the best intervention method.
