Resumen:
The present work has as main objective a work with the autistic child: challenges and possibilities in a school in the backlands of Paraíba. From this objective, three others were outlined that gave more specificity to the work, namely: identifying the main difficulties faced by the autistic child; investigating whether there is continuing education for teachers to work with students with autism and knowing the strategies used by teachers in learning of autistic children. This research is a case study being qualitative in nature with simple discourse analysis. For data collection, two semi-structured interview scripts were used: one for the mother of the autistic student and another for the two public school teachers, with questions aimed at the research objectives. The criteria used to select the interviewees were direct contact with the autistic childand for convenience. Based on the analysis of the interviewees' statements, we reached the conclusion that it is essential to get to know the child with autism, in order to then develop strategies that can contribute to learning, to the process of socialization and communication.
