Resumen:
This research, inserted in the field of study of Youth and Adult Education (EJA), investigated the following problem: How does the educator who works in Youth and Adult Education face and try to overcome the challenges imposed on their teaching practice? In order to study it, this research had the following general objective: To analyze how teachers who work in Youth and Adult Education in the municipality of Pombal face the challenges of their practice, when it comes to promoting the teachinglearning process. The specific objectives were: To know how teachers develop their practices to engage and educate young people and adults in the municipality of Pombal; Point out what are the challenges faced by EJA educators; Identify how EJA educators are trained to face the challenges of their practice; Check how teachers prepare to face the challenges of their practice. The methodology took place through data collection carried out through semistructured interviews with teachers who work in Cycle I of Youth and Adult Education in the municipality of Pombal, and through the analysis of the statements obtained using the Content Analysis techniques. As a result, the research made it possible to unveil the countless challenges faced by teachers working in Youth and Adult Education in the municipality of Pombal, such as: the fragility of their training, the lack of visibility of the modality, the fulfillment of other functions at school on the part of the educators, the question of the multiseries, the context of exclusion and prejudice suffered by the students, the lack of a specific textbook for the modality, the lack of interest of the students, the poor quality of the meal offered, dropout, in addition to the problems personal effects of students that end up reflecting on the teachinglearning process. In conclusion, we highlight the mechanisms used by teachers to alleviate the problems faced by this modality and the fact that the research allowed a deeper understanding of the teaching performed at EJA and its specificities.
