Résumé:
Discussions about sustainable development have been taking place worldwide over the last
decades. From this perspective, several actions are being taken to align current development
and preserve natural resources for the future generations, and one of the relevant aspects is the
changing in current production and consumption patterns. In this context, considering a state
prerogative to regulate as sustainable procurement, its high purchasing power and their ability
to stimulate the productive sector, such as sustainable public contracting are manifesting as a
favorable feature to positively stimulate consumption habits and, consequently, encourage
sustainable practices in society. Based on the foregoing, this research aims to analyze which
environmental sustainability criteria were adopted in conducting the bidding processes in a
Higher Education Institution. After a literature review to achieve the proposed goal and the
determination of the basic parameters for evaluation of the research object, a documentary
research was carried out in the Center for Sustainable Development Semi-Arid, campus of the
Federal University of Campina Grande, located in Sumé, Paraíba. A qualitative exploratory
research was performed through a documentary analysis of bidding electronic trading sessions
of the institution for permanent property purchases, consumer goods and services in 2010 to
2020 contracting. The results showed that the institution has adopted sustainability criteria in
their electronic trading sessions, but so far insufficient, given the volume of purchases made.
So for a consolidation of sustainable contracting in its scope are practical need for more active
and institutionalized and, above all, greater engagement of managers with all institutional
sectors performing procurement planning, training and promoting connections and exchange of
information with the supplier market goods and services.
