Abstract:
This work presents the final results of a research that has its investigative focus directed
to the history of the Workers' Party in the city of Campina Grande, in the interior of the State of Paraíba. Its main objective is to understand how the process of metamorphosis via transformism operated in the local PT, whose maximum expression was the coalition with a rival political group, aiming to ascend to the municipal executive power in the 2000 elections. The influence of the State leadership and also of the Nacional, even with the consent of the biggest leader of the party, are overweight. At the core of the new posture adopted were the support of the Cunha Lima group, the PT candidate in the subsequent municipal reelection, the change of forces in state politics and the Lula 2002 candidacy. Conceptually, the analysis proposed in this work is inserted in the field of theory and method of historical and dialectical materialism, having as reference both its founders and the writings of the Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci. As for the sources used, we cross-referenced party documentation, local periodicals (with special emphasis on Diário da Borborema and Jornal da Paraíba) and oral history. Documental corpus which allowed us to examine the traces of the past with attention and detail, in order to empirically support our work.
