Afinal de que agricultura familiar estamos falando? Um estudo sobre as famílias agricultoras do sítio Serra do Maracajá – Puxinanã – PB.

Abstract

The Ministry of Agrarian Development supported by the IBGE says that family type of agriculture would be responsible for producing an average of 70% of the food arriving at the table of the population. The image of family farming that has been built and in different ways, enhanced, features the family farmer as an economically autonomous subject, entrepreneur, able to take responsibility for the future generations, a concerned actor with both the preservation of the environment the rational use of natural resources, such as the commitment to produce healthily foods that make up the basic diet of the Brazilian. Considering the differences in modes and productive strategies and the particular forms of social reproduction believe that family farming which would be dealing with statistics and the government does not appear to unite. We suspect that the description given above does not correspond to a majority of family farmers in Brazil, especially in the Northeast, for which the reality of the drought, the constant hardships and, ultimately, hunger are not just mere statistics, but a given it requires political confrontation. Assuming that the statistical data is not revealing all the elements of reality that involves the diversity of family farming in Brazil and that this same agriculture has been taken from a single definition, ie "it is a productive and consolidated agriculture ". Faced with this premise this dissertation aims to analyze, from empirical evidence, which strategies are developed by resident farmers in Sitio Serra do Maracajá - Puxinanã-PB, in order to enable an analogy between the profile of farmers and characteristics family farming spread in the official media, in order to verify the relationship between household income, agricultural production and the basic diet of farming families.
