The objective of this work was to evaluate the immunization quality of Azadirachta indica wood, treated with chromed copper (CCB) borate, by the sap substitution technique combined
with the prolonged simple immersion technique. The stems of Azadirachta indica were
collected in the Forest Garden of the Federal University of Campina Grande Campus of Patos
PB. Sixteen neem individuals were randomly selected, noting the dendrometric data of each
stem. Four (T) treatment situations were evaluated (three T1, T2 and T3 treatments submitted
to sap replacement with CCB and T4 control). Two of the three situations were subjected to
preimmersion, one in water (T1) and the other in solution (T2). After treatment, samples were
taken from the stem ends to calculate boron retention and to install the xylophagus resistance
test (Nasutitermes corniger). The results indicated that the increase of moisture in the preimmersion
treatments (T1 and T2) favored the process of sap replacement and boron retention,
statistically different from the situation in which there was no preimmersion (T3). In the termite food preference test, there was no difference between T1, T2 and T3 treatments in relation to weight loss, but the treatments differed from T4 (control). However, Azadirachta indica stems submitted to preimmersion in water and preimmersion in solution before being subjected to preservative treatment showed significant improvement in their treatability and increased resistance to attack by Nasutitermes corniger. In the comparison of the two pretreatments, the immersion in water was more prominent.
