Resumo:
The storage of granular and powdered food products brings with it one of the largest trading
companies in the world today and presents important contributions to many countries. Jenike
introduced the distinction in flow pattern into two different types: mass flow and funnel flow,
this term is used for today. The objective of this research was the experimental study of flow
and flow of pulverulent and granular products (cassava flour, millet, crystal sugar, confectioner
and demerara) to support structural design in silos. It was observed that in relation to the flow
index of the products (cassava flour, crystal sugar millet and demerara sugar) were classified as
products that flow easily; the product (confectionery sugar) was classified as a cohesive
product. When discharging the cassava flour its flow did not vary according to the inclination
of the hopper, the flow was of the type of mass for the inclinations of 30 ° and 45 °. The millet
had mass flow rate of to the hoppers with different slopes 30 and 45◦. The flow rate observed
at the unloading of the crystal sugar was mass type for the two different slopes 30 and 45 ◦. The
flow of the demerara sugar was funnel type for the hopper with slope of 60◦ and there was no
flow with the hopper of 45◦. The values of experimental mass flow were different from the
theoretical ones for all the products. For the products millet, cassava flour and crystal sugar the
slope of the hopper with the highest discharge flow was 45 °, reaching values ranging from 18%
to 65.52% faster than other slopes of hoppers that were Compared. The demerara sugar
presented a mass flow rate of 0.458 kg / s for the hopper with slope of 60◦, with no discharge
flow to the hopper with a slope of 45 °.
