Resumo:
This work has on their main basis the Geometry in the elementary level. In it we
present a pedagogical practice that can help students to realize the importance of the development of geometry along the years and how it can be used in solving certain problems in the everyday life. With this aim we present an overview of the development of geometry since antiquity to nowadays with emphasis in the process known as Quadrature and how it was and it is used to calculate areas of plane figures. Based in a sequence of axioms and propositions found in Euclid’s Elements book we present the quadrature process for a triangle and consequently for a polygon. After the process is presented, we suggest a number of activities to be implemented using the capabilities of Geogebra software which may stimulate the learning process in volving the content of areas of plane figures. In the last part of the work, we present some comments on how the history of mathematics was and it is viewed by teachers and professionals
