Street market represents an important mean of survival as well as of cultural expression for
many individuals, being a multifaceted space, where the range of phenomena is varied, which
can be seen through different perspectives. Thus, the present work aims to analyze the
landscape change that occurred from 2007 to 2009 in the streetmarket Feira da Prata, in
Campina Grande - PB, and its consequences on the quality of life of the people who live this
Marketplace. The procedures used for the study’s feasibility were related to the qualiquantitative
approach through literature review; field research, questionnaire appliance,
interviews and production of mental maps. The study was based on Humanistic and Health
Geography, with greater evidence on phenomenology. Using Health Geography scope as
theory, there are concepts such as quality of life, risk, prevention, promotion. As well as
contributions from Geography itself: landscape, topophilia, geographic space, place, lived
space. And also themes from Psychology: experience, senses and perception. Through the
research it was possible to observe structural elements which directly bear upon the health of
the people who go through the Feira da Prata street market, such as: shelter, presence of
abandoned animals, garbage accumulation. Besides, it was also possible to perceive the
centrality that Feira da Prata exerts through its trade on weekends.
