Résumé:
This paper aims to do a bibliographic revision concerning public spaces. This study still
deals with the divergences between both the public and the private urban spaces reporting
its importance to the academic studies. This research was carried out in the Zé de Melo’
Square, Soledade-PB’ Town. The aforesaid square is located near BR 230, the way which
crosses important Paraiba State regions, as: Agreste, Sertão and, Litoral where there is a
varied flux of transport, people and goods. This research also seeked to accomplish to
characterize the square, a space that transforms itself in a place based on its uses, giving
spatial meanings, through the affective relations and socialization. The descriptions
obtained from the lived experiences, collected through interviews, lead to a better analysis
and a comprehension about this square reality which needs actions of public policies.
