In the context of a society marked by technological advances, both in economic sectors,
political as well as educational, if an analysis of the settings is necessary that education
takes over and within this issue. Highlight the role of the textbook, as "teaching tool" in the
process of teaching and learning, and this feature has been used in the classroom turns out
the relevance of this in such a process. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the
importance of the textbook of Geography in schools, and make an assessment of how this
feature has been used. To do this we chose to cut out the geography teachers from two
public schools in the city of Boa Vista - PB. We aim to diagnose whether the textbook
(LD) in these schools is used as the only source of knowledge or as a helper application.
To identify these objectives, we use the literature and questionnaires with geography
teachers of schools Francisca Leite Vitorino and Teodósio Oliveira Ledo, both located in
the city of Boa Vista - PB. Based on the data obtained from the questionnaires, we saw that
the four teachers of the two schools, answered unanimously that the collegiate own school
teachers who performed the choice of LD, jointly with colleagues of discipline. This is
extremely positive, as it shows an accuracy the guidelines presented by PNLD to the
selection process. Unfortunately, we had no further details on what points were taken into
account in the process of choosing the Teaching of Geography Book. On the importance of
the textbook, was asked if the textbook is an expendable resource or essential, all were
unanimous in the position that considers the textbook a fundamental and indispensable tool
in the teaching and learning process. Thus showing the importance of analyzing this
educational material. Already regarding the use of the textbook of Geography in the
classroom, we saw different situations, with some methodologies that we seemed
appropriate, given the variety of proposed activities and their quality. But some have called
our attention for its traditional character and extremely mnemonic that does little to
influence the learning process of students.
