Resumen:
Geography of Education can provide the student with a comprehensive learning when
working interrelationships between the local and the global. Thus, this research aims to
verify that the teaching of Geography is analyzing the transformations of the landscape
occurred in Cruzeiro neighborhood (Campina Grande City in the State of Paraiba in Brazil),
from the installation of AeC Call Center Company in Juscelino’s Kubitschek Avenue and
linking these areas with more distant ones. Therefore, the use of maps, images, and
cartographic drawings can contribute to the observation of this landscape in the student's
daily life, so they are able to differentiate the Local and the Global rescuing the past and
comparing to today’s landscape. The methodology used free observation emphasizing “the
observing" as the investigation procedure and the interview as analysis technique of teaching
practices. In this perspective, we found that most of the teachers work with the concepts of
place and landscape, and have used the field study on the construction of geographical
knowledge. However, the analysis between the local and the global are not evidenced.
Moreover, one of the teachers highlighted of having done studies on the transformations in
the last decade of the neighborhood, which shows probably that Jucelino’s Kubischeck
Avenue and the AeC Company had been used as examples in class. However, we found that
the study of the place is treated in a more subjective perspective and it is necessary a more
critical analysis of this reality, relating it to other external elements, favoring a more effective
reading of the world.
