Abstract:
To analyze the provision of public services in border areas between two cities and the
consequences in the quality of life for residents of these areas, it is the objective of this
research. In the cities of Campina Grande and Puxinanã-PB, the understanding of the
provision of public services in border areas is seen as a problem to be directly related to the
work and commitment of public administrations in the valuation of the central areas of the
municipal headquarters, which their peripheral areas end up being forgotten, and when these
are found in municipal limits, forgetfulness becomes even greater. Observing this reality in
Lagoa de Dentro community, the theme developed in this monograph, looks to understand the
ineffectiveness of municipal governments for the provision of services. Possessing a unique
identity in the territory, the reason to be taken into consideration when looking to apply public
services to this, which belongs partly to Campina Grande and partly to Puxinanã, and for this
reason there should be a joint performance of public officials in the execution of public
functions essentials and civil right, which involve common interests to the population.
However, it is not what it looks as Lagoa de Dentro still lacks an integrated act for the
provision of public services. We analyzed the provision of health services and public
transport, through documents analysis and interviews with residents and public managers,
identifying significant deficiencies that affect the daily lives of the residents from Lagoa de
Dentro. The municipal managers do of the limit the justification for the lack of investment,
demonstrating far from a common understanding for the resolution of such problems.
