Résumé:
Historically, higher education has been serving elite of society. Notwithstanding in the
last few years it has been opened to lower layers of population, it still needs more funds,
because most of people does not go to college yet. In this perspective, this work goals to
assess if the young people who works for textile industry at Pernambuco s agreste and
Paraíba s backwoods (Cariri) are joining higher education. The research is needed due to
the lack of studies that focus public policy to the youth at those areas. Thus, it is
academically and socially relevant, because it can base new projects that promote a fairer
and more inclusive development to these segments. Qualitative research was chosen as
methodology. Because we will not be only attached to data, but to continuous
interpretation of reality. Triangulation technique was also used, that according to
Triviños, it focus subjects, the environment and the system in which youth is inserted.
We spotted a percentage of youth people joining public and private universities, however,
they look for different areas of knowledge from those they already work at and there are
public education offered at Caruaru it is due to the possibility of new job opportunities,
often moving from their hometown to Paraíba, where there are more diversified offer of
courses. Plus, most of the courses linked with textile industry that are taken at
Pernambuco agreste, happens at day shift, and most of the young interviewed does not
have information about them. We also verified that many young judge do not be necessary
higher education to work at textile industry, and they rather chose technical education,
frequently often by SENAI, city halls, and private sectors. In this context, PRONATEC
of IFPE-Caruaru, which could supply this demand, does not offer any course facing this
economic potential. Therefore, public policy to the youth must be projected from the
effective participation of these subjects, because only this way it can contribute for less
excluding process.
