Abstract:
Brazilian northeastern regionalist literature, especially the second modernist
generation, represented the Northeast of that time, highlighting the leading elements
that composed the picture of the region. The huge editorial success achieved by these
authors, as well as the multiple power relations involved in the disputes between the
Brazilian regional elites, contributed to the formulation of prejudices and stereotypes
about the region, marking it under the sign of delay, poverty and drought. These
images persist until nowadays, being reproduced by the media and discourses in
general. Nevertheless, there are movements that seek to break with this. This is the
case of writer Ronaldo Correia de Brito who, in his books, he portrays the
contemporary Northeast, trying to question generalizations and prejudiced images. In
this way, we analyze, according to CHARTIER (1988), the representation that this
author makes of the region, emphasizing the multiple ways in which he pictures the
relationship between the region and globalization. For this, we rely mainly on the
considerations of CANCLINI (2003), ALBUQUERQUE (2009, 2012, 2013), HALL
(2003), SANTOS (2006).
