Abstract:
Every religious human being seeks a place to make connection with the divinity in which they believe. Thus, the cemeteries are considered as places of worship, since regardless of the religion professed, there is always the thought that the space is "sacred", in view of the various achievements of religious rituals such as masses, offerings and memorial services of those who have died. The old parish church located in the Center of the city of Campina Grande, long served as burial space for the dead. However, it was built in 1856 the city's first cemetery. The following decades, others were created according to the urban growth of this. In 2005 Campina Grande received the construction of the most important private burial space in the county, Campo Santo cemetery. Peace Park was recognized for its economic importance in the Brazilian Northeast, therefore allowed the arrival of Campo Santo, which came with the proposal to seek new modalities to attract more consumers to acquire deposits. The present work had as a research problem to analyze the process of appropriation of the sacred space by the capital from the creation of Campo Santo Park of Peace. For this research, initially was realized readings about the appropriation of the space by the capital. In a later stage, questionnaires were applied and interviews were carried out in loco. Despite the great importance of this enterprise for the city, it was observed that the use of space is limited to social classes with greater purchasing power. This way, privileging only a certain part of the population.
