Abstract:
First aid is characterized by the first assistance to the victim, occurring quickly and qualified by a qualified person, with the purpose of maintaining the vital signs and stabilization of the person served until the arrival of the specialized team or referral to the nearest hospital service , highlights the importance of this mode of care since the first minutes are essential for a rapid and efficient intervention with the objective of reducing morbidity and mortality and possible sequelae. The restlessness and unpredictability inherent in children and the physical structure of schools make it more prone to head, face and limb injuries, allied to falls, cuts and fractures. Most of the time, teachers are the main witnesses of the event and these fear, lack of knowledge and insecurity do not provide adequate care. In this context, nursing occupies a privileged position in health education, since the school is one of the places where emergency and emergency situations are most present. Objective: To identify and to qualify the knowledge of the teachers of the municipal education network of the city of Cuité - Paraíba, Curimataú Paraibano region in relation to first aid in school environment. Methodology: It is a descriptive study, of a qualitative nature, carried out from October 2017 to December 2018 in 6 elementary schools (1st to 9th grade) located in the urban area of the municipal network of teaching in the city of Cuité, which according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in the year 2017 had an affiliated population of 20,348 inhabitants. The interviews were conducted with semi-structured questionnaires with 10 subjective questions. After the interviews were completed, they were compiled into three categories: Notions about school accidents, First aid and Learning about first aid. Results: Through the analysis of the data, the obstacles perceived by this study allowed to perceive the existing fragility of the teachers' knowledge, not to contemplate the discipline of first aid in the graduation of the educators resulting in unpreparedness and insecurity, and the lack of capacities offered to the teachers About the subject. Final considerations: The suggestion to start teaching first aid in elementary school, the insertion of the subject in the curriculum of all the courses of higher level, defining the role of the municipal governments in this scope, with the contribution of assembly and distribution of first aid kits in all schools. It is worth emphasizing the impact of this research, since it proposes an intervention of transformation of attitudes, contributing to accident prevention, training of more conscious citizens and thus carrying out health education.
