Resumen:
Urbanization, in the last decades, has caused numerous impacts on the population and the
environment. These impacts were intensified by the lack of management and by the deficiency
in the basic sanitation services that degraded the quality of water mainly of the water bodies
that receive all the pollution generated in the urban centers. The urban drainage system enters
this context by transporting the polluted rainwater to the springs. This pollution is caused by
surface washing that carries pollutants deposited on the surface and mainly by the contributions
of sewage that are released into the drainage system illegally. In this context, the objective of
this work was to study the influence of these clandestine sewage contributions, in terms of
organic matter, on the drainage system of the Prado canal, located in the city of Campina
GrandePB.
The methodology developed consisted of three stages, in the first the study area
was delimited, in the second the characterization of the drainage system was carried out,
assisted by onsite
visits, where the mapping of the sewage entrances and the diagnosis of the
system current drainage. In the third step, the simulations of the scenarios proposed by the
Storm Water Management Model SWMM
model were carried out. The results showed that
the high concentrations of BOD and COD present in the canal waters indicate the large amount
of organic matter present in the system and can be classified as domestic sewage. In the analysis
of the proposed scenarios, it was noticed that removing the most critical inputs was obtained
more significant results regarding the reduction of concentration and pollutant load values.
