Resumo:
Fatigue damage is one of the main problems found in asphalt pavements, being directly
influenced by the dynamic loading and the constant change in the climatic conditions to
which the asphalt mixture is subjected. This problem is related to smallscale
phenomena and
is affected by the binder content, the characteristics of the aggregates and the properties of the
binderaggregate
interface. This study investigated the fine aggregate matrix (FAM) design
methods proposed by Kim, Castelo Branco, Karki and Coutinho, defining a method that best
estimates the binder content that is present in the thin part of a conventional asphalt mixture.
As a conclusion, it was verified that all the methods estimated different binder contents and it
was possible to prove that some of them are deficient in the consideration of the properties of
the materials used.
