Application of the VIZIR method in the visual evaluation of flexible pavements. Road networks are essential elements in the infrastructure of any country and have a great effect on economic development. It is important to understand the condition of the pavement for the choice of procedures and investments that can guarantee the circulation of vehicles with safety, comfort and economy. In order to evaluate the conditions of the road in the surroundings of the Federal University of Campina Grande, the French VIZIR method was used. The defect survey was performed manually, recording its severity and extent. Following the procedures imposed by the method, it was concluded that the state of the study under study was generally considered regular. However, it was observed that a part of the road was in poor condition, presenting a divergence of the general condition of the pavement. A critical analysis of the method was analyzed, analyzing its simplicity and reliability in the evaluation of pavement condition, identifying the advantages and disadvantages from the results found. This research was also intended to guide decisions regarding preventive maintenance or restorative processes, since improvements are often made that do not actually solve the real problem of the highways. Finally, it was recommended some modifications in the French method, with the intention of improving it, making it more reliable. The proposed changes included: a clearer and more objective definition of the severity of the defects and the inclusion of other types of pathologies that are not part of the assessment, but which influence the state of the floor.
