Resumen:
The work searches the recent literature about waterway transport, approaching the opening of ports by D. Pedro until nowadays, gathering information about logistics, the Brazilian port economy and the economy of the state of Paraíba. Thus, allowing to study the physical and technical characteristics of the port of Cabedelo located in Paraíba, arranging a more detailed analysis of the port. Checking in this way that the port of Cabedelo is the only maritime mode for foreign trade of the state, which is very important for the disposal of the state’s raw material and for the receiving of goods from other places. This same importance is not noticed for the Northeast region of Brazil because there are other greater ports in the área of influence of the port of Cabedelo that are able to flow more modernly the products of the region, it is the case of the port of Suape, located in Pernambuco. With the decrease in the port activity of the port of Cabedelo, the port authority that administers the port started looking for new investments and partnerships, including opening up other aspects such as the flow of passengers.
