The implementation of programs such as Um Milhão de Cisternas (P1MC), Uma
Terra Duas Águas (P1 + 2) and Programa Água Doce(PAD) are examples of actions
to coexist with the semi-arid region that ensure that rural populations have access to
drinking water . In this sense, it is necessary to understand how small municipalities
with less than five thousand inhabitants are being supported by the coexistence
programs created by the government to serve the population of these municipalities.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the difficulties of access to drinking water
in the 68 municipalities of the semi-arid region of Paraiba with less than 5,000
inhabitants. For this, the data collected in the portals of the Ministério do
Desenvolvimento Social and Ministério do Meio Ambiente were used as crosstabulation
methodologies in GIS environment on the programs in parallel with the
SNIS data of the rural population supplied by the general network of Water. And it
was verified that there is vulnerability in water supply in these municipalities in the
three presented programs.
