Resumen:
The shallow foundation submitted to tensile stresses are elements present in several types of
buildings, this area of foundations engineering was little explored, so it is justifiable to approach
the theme. The usual methodologies for calculating the load capacity of surface tensile
foundations are: The soil Cone Method, Friction Cylinder Method, Balla Method, Method of
Meyerhof and Adams. In this work a comparative analysis of the results of the load capacity
obtained through these methods is made for foundations seated at 30,45 and 60 cm depth and
with diameters of 30 and 45 cm, with the values of the tests of actual loads tested by Ruver
(2011). It is concluded, that for these foundations in the studied soil conditions the method that
was most efficient was that of Meyerhor and Adams. The method that presented results farthest
from the actual load capacity value was the cone trunk method for the situation where α is equal
to that observed in the load tests.
