In a competitive market, cost reductions and innovations in construction methods are
very important to stay competitive in the market. With the capitalist vision to obtein the
greatest possible profit, some steps in the execution are usually skipped or neglected
and the most harmed tends to be the user. ABNT NBR 15.575 / 2013 – Residential
Buildings - Performance, was designed to measure subjective parameters, in order to
give a performance standard for residential constructions to give the user a minimum
level of compliance. The methods are now evaluated in its operation and not as they
are executed, motivating the technological innovation. Because it is a system that can
hardly see, the waterproofing of housing is often set aside to save resources which
culminates in several pathological manifestations, unlike the system, the problems
related to it are easily understood. An exploratory research was performed in order to
analyze the perception of builders and compliance of measures of standard, which
addressed the types of materials and methods used, requirements and design
specifications. The present work aims to analyze the attendance and the impacts
caused by the watertight criteria of ABNT NBR 15.575/2013 to the construction
companies of the city of Campina Grande-PB. With the obtained results it could be
observed that the companies still neglect the watertight systems, since no company
follows all the steps that the standard addresses, from the conception to the execution
of the system. However, for the most part, companies use the appropriate materials
and methods to make the element waterproof by empirically making it watertight.
However, most do not perform tests to ensure tightness, a failure in the system,
because the laboratory and support staff is not effective in the region, as well as the
oversight of the entire procedure to comply with ABNT NBR 15.575 (2013).
