Due to the increasing expansion of the use of steel in rational construction methods, whether with metal profiles or decking sheets, it is necessary to investigate its adaptability in the most diverse places. In order to analyze the influence of the maritime environment in the process of degradation of steel structures, a case study was carried out in a residential building in progress on the coast of Cabedelo - PB. The monitoring took place for almost 3 years, and a comparative methodology was carried out, with photographic records, within 6 months. The diagnosis considered information about the classification of environmental aggression of the location of the enterprise, based on variables of temperature, rainfall and wind regime. Based on the data, it was estimated, according to the Ibero-American map of atmospheric corrosion, classification C5. From this, approximations about the durability of the protective coatings used in steel parts were determined. However, the flowering of premature corrosive points was observed
in both beams, pillars and ladders with epoxy primer treatment and in galvanized tiles. In addition, it has been found to be more common to find punctate corrosion products and so-called "white rust". Still, through the confrontation of the images, an intense spreading of the process of degradation in a short period of time was perceived. Analytically, it was concluded that this would be associated to factors such as shoreline distance and exposure time, being intimately influenced by humidity and chloride deposition.
