Abstract:
The pathological manifestations caused in reinforced concrete and induced by the high concentration of chloride is one of the main problems of structures located in environments close to the sea. The penetration of chloride into concrete is very complex and depends on parameters directly linked to the properties of the materials that compose it. In this sense, with the purpose of evaluating the influence of the presence of chlorides in the advancement of the related pathological manifestations in reinforced concrete structures, this work used reinforced concrete poles located on the Via Costeira of the capital of Rio Grande do Norte as an object of study. the objective of monitoring the evolution and the appearance of pathological manifestations, based on non-destructive tests. The location chosen was extremely important because the maritime environment of Natal is known for the strong presence of chloride ions (Cl-), which is responsible for accelerating the degradation of materials. That said, non-destructive tests were designed to maintain the integrity of the installed specimens and even so, to identify the quality and characteristics of each one, being made with conventional, self-compacting concrete and protective paint. From the experiments of electrical resistivity, corrosion potential and sclerometry it was possible to obtain favorable results to the association of self-compacting concrete and additional paint in structures subject to such an invasive area.
