Abstract:
Currently, one of the main themes discussed worldwide is the quality of life in its different
spheres. For there to be quality of life it is necessary to have a set of conditions that contribute
to the physical and psychological well-being of each individual in society. The rapid increase
in the number of motor vehicles has caused a significant increase in the number of complaints
from the population regarding noise generated in cities, both in Brazil and in the rest of the
world. Studies conducted in several cities have revealed that traffic noise is the largest
contributor to measured sound levels and the biggest cause of nuisance in urban areas. In this
context, this work aimed to carry out a case study in the city of Campina Grande, Paraíba, to
measure the noise level inside urban buses. The study was carried out through an objective
evaluation of the sound pressure level inside urban buses. Then, the collected data were
analyzed to compare with the levels allowed or recommended by standard. The data were
analyzed taking into account aspects such as: noise level for vehicle in motion, vehicle stopped,
acoustic performance of vehicles on pavements with different types of coating, vehicles at times
and peak and time out of peak. The results were satisfactory, since the average values obtained
were below the limits established by norm.
