The deficiency of basic sanitation services and human activities contributes considerably to the
degradation of the environment. In view of the need to improve aquatic environments, we
continually seek alternatives for the treatment of polluted waters that can act in a harmonious
way with the urban landscape. The objective of this work was to analyze the influence of the
floating gardens on the revitalization of the polluted waters of the açude, located in the campus
of the Federal University of Campina Grande - PB. Three modular structures were chosen,
which were already present in the study environment, built with pallets and coconut fiber
substrate and used ornamental plants. The monitoring was done by weeks collections, in 5
points continuously distributed to the water flow, with spacing of 2m between them. The
analyzed parameters were: turbidity, DBO5, DQO, soluble orthophosphate and amoniacal
nitrogen. The system was efficient in the removal of organic matter and nutrients for all
analyzed parameters,. External environmental factors with rainfall, effluent discharge may
influence the results found, hindering its interpretation.
