Resumen:
The mains, as a direct part of the water supply system, are to transport the raw water collected from the springs to the water treatment station, and then supply the population. In the design of a pipeline for settlement, several technical and economic factors must be considered for the construction of a safe system, the combination of these factors results in the appropriate choice of the diameter of the pipe. This work consists of a case study employing, among several, three dimensioning methods: Method based on the Weight of Pipes, Method of Linear Variation of Pipe Costs and Method of Real Evaluation of Costs. The Transparaíba Adductor System was analyzed, whose construction aims to provide water security for more than 200 thousand people from the regions of Agreste, Cariri and Curimataú in the state of Paraíba for the next 30 years. The raw water pipeline design data were used to apply the sizing methods, and according to the results obtained, it was found that the methods are flawed and limited by the difficulties of practical assessment of the costs incurred in the implementation, operation and maintenance of a system, as it does not take into account thecosts of the pump sets and the maintenance of the system. On the other hand, the project carries out a detailed economic analysis, however, it fails to test the 700mm diameter. It is concluded, having satisfied the hydraulic needs, that the economic diameter must be the one capable of guaranteeing the lowest cost for the system, considering the various costs incurred.
