Resumo:
The growing generation of urban solid waste arising from population and economic growth has become an environmental problem, compromising the population's quality of life and the balance of nature. Managing solid waste in a way that does not harm the environment, although it is a function of the government, is a process that needs to involve the participation of all actors in society. In this context, this study aims to verify how solid waste management happens in the municipality of Nazarezinho-PB and seeks to answer the following issue: What environmental impacts are associated with solid waste management? The research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, based on the deductive scientific method. The management of solid waste in this municipality meets legal specifications, however, in practice, no structured management was found, just an attempt to comply with the legal requirement. Thus, it is extremely important that the municipality develop a Solid Waste Management Plan, which does not exist at the time this study was carried out, considering the various social actors, in order to improve solid waste management in the municipality.
