Prata que vale ouro: a casa moderna da década de 60.

Abstract

The present work has six residential buildings built in Prata’s district as object ABSTRACT of study. The buildings are located in the city of Campina Grande-PB and were constructed during the decade of 1960. Representing the principles of the Modern Architecture. Prata neighborhood, taken as a case study, is situated in the surroundings of the city center, and acts as protagonist in the modern architecture and urban scenario, due to the installation of equipment and homes that symbolized the Campina’s economic rise resulting from the intensification of industrial development. The objective of the investigation is to analyze the design principles of the objects studied, investigating how the modern architecture repertoire was reproduced or altered in these subjects. Thus, this work intends to contribute with the rescue of the modern residential architecture of Campina Grande, studying and divulging this collection, opening the way for propositions of preventive measures. Therefore, it is justified due to this collection of buildings serving as a way to understand the history of Campina Grande, especially the needs and values of Campina Grande’s society in the 60’s, in a way that this production can be valued as an important exemplary group. This study is a result of a research by the Architecture and Place Research Group / GRUPAL, linked to the Architecture and Urbanism course of the Federal University of Campina Grande / UFCG, registered in the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development / CNPq, through the HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE E OF THE MODERN CITY FORM CG, this work is based on the research project of the Scientific Initiation Program (PIBIC), entitled “Modern Silver. Studies on modern architectural production in the Prata neighborhood. Campina Grande. Paraíba “, developed by the author in her last year of graduation. Two methodological lines command this work: 1) historical; 2) architectural and urban planning. The first one focused on historical research works collecting data in primary and secondary sources, according to what was proposed by SERRA (2006), which characterizes processes and systems in the elaboration of scientific research in Architecture and Urbanism. Besides this methodological approach, the research also worked with the analysis of architectural objects, adopting the method of AFONSO (2017) and GASTON and ROVIRA (2007), that start from the graphic design study to better understand the objects under study, following reasearch’s guidelines that analyze the historical, spatial, tectonic, functional, and formal dimensions, as well as analyzing the physical and legal conservation of real estate.
