Palimpsesto e patrimônio industrial: projeto de intervenção Fábrica Wallig Nordeste S.A. Campina Grande - PB.

Abstract

The work developed has as its object of study the industrial set of the former factory Wallig Nordeste S.A., which today is relocated partly for industrial purposes and partly for warehousing. This work results from the investigations that have been carried out in the last two years by the research group GRUPAL1, supported by CNPq2, associated with the UFCG3 Architecture and Urbanism course, which allowed the approach with this object, as well as the theme of the industrial heritage and the problems surrounding it in the national, regional, and local context, specifically in the city of Campina Grande - PB. It is the objective of this study to elaborate a preliminary intervention project in part of the old factory Wallig Nordeste SA, in order to adapt it to a new use, maintaining the cultural significance of the substance, and restoring its historical - cultural function through the preservation of this heritage for future generations. It is observed, by the patrimonial organs and population, the lack of recognition of these structures as architectural and historical patrimony; thus, when undergoing deindustrialization process, these building in rich design solutions, try to degrade or undergo strong mischaracterization, fated underutilization, are also an urban problem. The Wallig industry assumed great financial and cultural importance for Campina Grande on the 1960s to the 1980s, and today it fits into the aforementioned context, partly degraded and other uncharacterized, demonstrating the importance of turning the gaze to industrial heritage in the city, through documentation, measures of protection and intervention, for safeguarding. In the development of this work, it is supported by the methodology proposed by AFONSO (2019), for the study about intervention in heritage, regarding the theoretical framework in the discussions raised by CHOAY (1992), the Nizhny Tagil’s letter (2003), and KUHL ( 2006).
