Resumo:
Introduction: The use of materials such as botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid has long been present in health areas. For Dentistry, applications for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes have had a significant increase from the permissions of the Federal Council of Dentistry, which established Orofacial Harmonization as a specialty and the use of these biomaterials has shown to be very effective for the
most varied specialties. Objectives: To gather information about the aesthetic and therapeutic use of botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid. Methods: The study was carried out through a bibliographic survey, using as sources the databases: Google Scholar, CAPES, Scielo and Pubmed, between the years 2000 and 2020 and it is an observational, transversal, documentary and with a qualitative approach. Results: It was observed the vast possibility of applications of botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid within dentistry, as well as the fair attribution to the dentist as a professional capable of applying his knowledge and techniques of these materials. Conclusion: The promising use of both Botulinum Toxin and Hyaluronic Acid for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes in dentistry was evident, especially with regard to the
outstanding advantages over the disadvantages of both materials, an aspect of agreement among all authors.
