Abstract:
The present work is part of the urban geography and its general objective is to analyze the importance of urban infrastructure and the tertiary sector in the city of Poço de José de Moura - PB, focusing on the area called commercial center. It was sought to identify its confluence area, that is, the surrounding cities, which are: Uiraúna, Poço Dantas, Joca Claudino, Triunfo, among others, that form this area, in order to explain the development and importance of the commerce sector. and services. Field research was carried out where some photographic records were made, a survey of commercial and service establishments, as well as some conversations (informal interviews) with actors directly and indirectly involved in the problem. The results obtained showed that the city does not define itself as a central location, as it seeks in other municipalities the goods and services that it does not have, and are polarized by cities of greater influence, such as Cajazeiras, Uiraúna, São João do Rio do Peixe in Paraíba and Pau dos Ferros - RN, distributed in hierarchical order of importance. Through data related to demographic, social and economic aspects, in addition to the factors location, distances and accessibility, the dependence that the city has on the micro-regional context was shown.
