Resumo:
Heart failure in dogs - literature review. The objective of this essay is to present a literary review of heart failure on dogs,
knowing that it is the outcome of severe heart diseases that have been affecting a large
number of animals. It has been done a theoretical approach about the circulatory system
with anatomical and physiological considerations, already associated with the
pathophysiology of the disease as it promotes retention of sodium and water, increasing
blood pressure, thus, numerous compensatory mechanisms perform the maintenance of
the cardiac output. The disease is divided in frames of severity and each of then
originate from various causes. Along with these informations some treatment protocols,
due to huge divergences about it, since the main goal is to extend the lifetime associated
with quality of life. And finally there is a detailing of the clinical and laboratory
diagnosis currently available on the market. Using this essay one must have in mind the
specificity that each patient has, so as the breed and age patterns, thus it is a tool for
study and theoretical basis for clinical evaluation of an animal with suspected heart
failure.
