Síndrome navicular (revisão).

Abstract

The navicular syndrome is a disease that affects horses throughout the world and a significant cause of bone lesions in the species. Animals are usually affected breeds quarter mile and pure blood have aged four to 15 years, and has intense physical activity. It is believed that factors such as hereditary predisposition, inadequate management, irregular shoeing interfere in its occurrence. Clinical signs related to the disease are unilateral or bilateral lameness, tenderness in the heel and laminitis. Diagnosis is based on clinical, epidemiological findings, and ancillary tests (xray, ultrasound and MRI). The treatment can be done using antiinflammatory drugs or by surgery. The aim of this review demonstrate the key aspects of the clinical epidemiological and therapeutic navicular syndrome.
