A disease of great importance in Clinical Small Animal Disease is Feline Lower
Urinary Tract (FLUTD) which, if not treated in time, can lead to secondary renal
complications. In order to detect glomerular injury, veterinarians use parameters such as
Urea and serum creatinine as a diagnostic. However, these substances only identify
kidney injury when at least 75% of nephrons are functionally compromised, it is not
favorable since the early diagnosis is desired. The use of analysis of the protein /
creatinine ratio is a urinary alternative to diagnoses, because through this determination
can detect renal impairment when only 25% of the parenchyma is affected. This is work
to evaluate the importance of using the determination of protein / creatinine ratio in
early diagnosis of urinary kidney injury secondary to the Feline Lower Urinary Tract
Disease. Were included in this study, 12 cats treated at the Medical Clinic of Small
Animal Veterinary Hospital University Federal de Campina Grande, campus Ducks,
diagnosed with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease in the period August 2013 to July
2014. The results showed that 66.6% of the cats had values of the ratio P/C Urinary
<0.2 and 33.4% had values between 0.2 and 0.4, thus did not develop until moment no
evidence of renal disease. The protein/creatinine ratio urinary might be useful as a
diagnostic tool to monitor these and other cases of cats with Lower Urinary Tract
disease.
