Resumo:
Aspergillosis in quails (Coturnix coturnix) in the interior of Paraíba.Describe three cases of aspergillosis occurred in quails in the backlands of Paraiba. A
total of 240 quails, 120 became ill and 90 died. Of these, 18 birds were necropsied, and
in only 3 birds were found lesions characteristic of the disease. The examinations and
diagnoses were made in the Pathology Laboratory Animal Veterinary Hospital of the
Federal University of Campina Grande, in March 2014. In the clinical examination were
observed Inappetence signals, drowsiness, depression, little movement, as nervous
symptoms, circling, paresis and cervical deviation. On external examination were seen
lean animals, ruffled feathers, brittle and opaque. During the autopsy, the opening of the
coelomic cavity of 3 birds, spherical, firm, yellowish lesions were found, well
circumscribed, ranging from 0.3 to 1.0 cm in diameter, attached air sacs. The
histopathological analysis of the three animals lesions were observed granulomas
encapsulated by fibrous tissue and discreet inside, presence of necrosis with heterophile
and degenerate macrophages amid necrotic material, bounded by multinucleated giant
cells. Interspersed with areas of necrosis, myriads of fine structures were observed with
dichotomous septa, morphologically compatible with Aspergillus, feature observed in
the impregnation by special silver staining. Thus, the study reports the occurrence of
aspergillosis in quails, reinforcing the need for veterinary guidance to preventive
measures in creating quails in experimental and commercial sheds.
