Resumen:
Vitrification of Equine Embryos (Equus caballus) - Literature Review. Advances in reproductive technologies have allowed the use of genetic material from
animals with high value livestock or endangered. Everything has been possible thanks
to cryobiology that could revolutionize the equine industry and their way of trade.
Vitrification can be used in equine embryos, however, with its particularities, require up
to be species specific protocols. The success depends on the size of the embryo, the
technique and cryoprotectants. Given the scarcity of literature regarding the vitrification
of equine embryos, this review seeks knowledge aiming future use, whether in
conservation genetics, or embryo transfer (ET), bringing improvements in both quality
production and preservation. The work aims to gather characteristics of equine embryo,
and demonstrate different methodologies for glazing, emphasize embryonic review, the
importance of cryoprotectants, the process of vitrification and disadvantages of the
process.
