Capuchin monkeys Sapajus libidinosus species are known as the most robust and
intelligent monkeys of the New World. The scarcity of data available in the literature on
the anatomy of the species has generated losses in the execution procedure for appropriate
veterinary treatment. Among the anatomical aspects not yet reported in the literature, stand
out the anatomy of muscles and the knowledge of peripheral vessels of larger caliber,
particularly the pelvic limb. To contribute to the veterinary clinic of these animals,
providing improvement and enrichment of data, this study aimed to describe anatomical
muscle and peripheral veins subject to venipuncture pelvic member of capuchin monkeys
(Sapajus libidinosus). For this we used 10 capuchin monkeys donated by
CETAS/IBAMA/PB to the Anatomy Laboratory of the Veterinary UFCG. The dissection
was performed in the pelvic limb for identification and description of the superficial and
deep muscles. After muscle description, was followed with identification and dissection of
veins the superficial larger caliber likely to venipuncture, as well as their vases trainers,
which were later described. The muscles were observed individually and classified
according to the number of origins, the muscular abdomen, insertion as well, the
arrangement of its fibers. For the veins, the best vases to the procedures of blood collection
and catheterization for fluid procedure were indicated. It was observed that the architecture
in the pelvic limb muscle of the capuchin was similar to muscles described in baboons and
humans, with a predominance of muscles with parallel fibers. Concerning the superficial
vascularization of the pelvic limb, were identified as veins possible of be puncture the
caudal saphenous vein and the femoral vein, presenting pathways in which they presenting
more caliber and fixed.
